Burn
Camp Mission Statement
The Alliance for Fire Safety's Summer Camp for Burn Injured Youth (sometimes called AFS Burn Camp)
is a statewide effort to provide a summer camping experience for youth 7-17 who have endured significant burn injuries. The purpose of the camp is to provide for the unique needs of burn injured youth while they are having fun making friends, sharing feelings and developing self-esteem.
We offer this to promote coping and life beyond the burn injury for these children.
On Thursday, August 13, 2015, Cookie, Molly Putz and Sudsy attended the annual Burn Camp. For the first time, Cousin Otto's Alley presented a check to help continue this camp, at no charge, to kids who have been burned in the State of Wisconsin. This is a most awesome experience!!!
On Thursday of camp it's family day, so there are lots of folks there:
Fire engines, Fire Fighter Motorcycle Clubs, Flight for Life Helicopters, a National Guard Med Flight Helicopter, and the mascot of the Admirals and Sparky parade around the camp. They enter under the U.S. Flag. Then the campers and clowns ride in and on the fire trucks for a long parade through the whole camp. Then there's a cook out for everyone with the best loaded baked potatoes ever.
The campers do a routine for their guests and a couple of them tell about their experience at camp. After that, the line forms to present donations from Fire Departments, Motorcycle Clubs and Corporate sponsors, etc.
There are lots of fund raisers out there to benefit this camp.
On the way back to your vehicle you stop for a root beer float.
One of the Fire Departments sets up a foam machine and slide on a big hill~~~
WOW, do they have a blast on that slide!
This is an experience you will never forget! We have done this for many years and plan to continue for many more.
